Long Bio: Lisa Calhoun
Lisa is the first woman to launch a venture capital firm in Georgia. She is founding general partner at Atlanta-based venture capital partnership Valor Ventures, which invests in a diversified portfolio of early stage technology companies. Forbes recently highlighted Valor as an example of venture capital finding value outside of Silicon Valley.
Lisa’s experience and entrepreneurship have contributed to over a billion dollars in exit value from emerging technologies. Lisa’s passion is supporting quality founders who create high-performance outcomes. She is a Kauffman Fellow, a member of the global network of top performing venture capital investors (Class 23). Before Valor, Lisa founded a digital marketing agency recognized by Hubspot as one of the “Top 10 Agencies for Tech Startups.” There she supported hundreds of high growth tech startups in early scale through their exit to public markets and acquisitions. In her early career, Lisa worked in IT consulting, helping large organizations solve complex problems with code.
Since founding Valor, Lisa is known for pioneering platforms that connect private capital to transformational investment opportunities. She created the Valor CIO/CTO Innovation Advisory Board that connects emerging software founders to potential enterprise customers. Lisa also founded the Startup Runway Foundation, a nonprofit which runs the largest pitch event for minority and women founders seeking seed capital in the Southeast.
Lisa earned her MBA from the University of Texas with a concentration in management science and quantitative methods. She credits her graduate stat professor Raydell Tullous for opening her mind to the beauty of finance. Lisa earned her degree with honors on a National Merit Scholarship at Baylor University. Lisa sits on several private company boards, including MyAgData, SmartCommerce and Women Who Code. She speaks and writes frequently on tech trends worth capitalizing on.
