Bikes Winning Big in Climate Change for Major Employers, Powered By Riderr
Founded: 2020
Investment: 2023 - Valor led seed round
Category: greentech, govtech, mobility tech
Operating at the intersection of climate tech, greentech, and govtech, Riderr's mission is to help cities recruit, track, and plan for cycling infrastructure through its software platform.
Since Valor invested, 46,000 workplaces have used Riderr to track over 3 million miles of workplace commutes.
Riderr’s proprietary machine learning technology enables the passive activity tracking of rides, a first for biking. By automatically tracking bike rides in the background without having to press start and stop, cities are able to leverage thousands of anonymized cycling data points to better understand ridership habits, areas for infrastructure improvement, and to scale their efforts. Riderr then centralizes these data points in a platform for city and company stakeholders to measure and manage.
Riderr's core value proposition is based on long-term trends, such as climate change and poor health, that require ongoing investment in cycling infrastructure.
In recent years enterprises, corporations, and governments have publicly pledged billions to achieve carbon neutrality, but few have deployed actionable plans to complete this goal. Riderr equips these stakeholders with the infrastructure and a low-friction avenue to begin their path to carbon neutrality.
Data from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration shows that the U.S. government alone spent $1.4 billion on bike and pedestrian infrastructure in 2019. Early in 2022 through bipartisan efforts, the U.S. government directed a $4.1B spending increase for the Highway Safety Improvement Program to expand cycling and pedestrian infrastructure efforts in cities.
