The AI Management System for Regulated Pharma

Every pharmaceutical company on earth is racing to put AI to work — and every one of them has to prove to a regulator that the AI they use is safe, compliant, and under control. Modicus Prime is the system of record that makes that possible.

Modicus Prime's AI Management System (AIMS) enables regulated organizations to scale AI across pharmaceutical GxP environments. By providing a single source of truth for regulators, the system ensures AI applications (and their ROI) remain compliant across their full lifecycle, mitigate risk and streamline AI usage from development through evolving GxP use. A resident at Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS @ South San Francisco, Modicus Prime is venture-backed and partners with leading pharmaceutical organizations to enable AI audit readiness at scale. The AI Management System integrates with existing tech stacks and quality management systems, supporting pharmaceutical manufacturers including segments such as biologics, cell and gene therapies, and vaccines across global regulatory environments.

Why Valor Invested First

Valor wrote Modicus Prime's first venture check in 2022, before the category it now leads had a name. We don't back software that happens to touch pharma; we back founders who have lived inside the problem they are solving. Taylor Chartier is exactly that founder.

A former engineer and data scientist at Shire and Bayer, Taylor built machine-learning systems to monitor commercial cell-purification quality in real time — from inside the regulated environment, under the same audit pressure her customers face today. She holds an MS in Bioscience and pursued PhD work in AI applications to biomedicine at the University of Luxembourg, one of the only programs in the world offering that curriculum. When most investors saw a niche, we saw a category-defining founder with rare command of three worlds that almost never sit in one person: data science, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and global regulatory compliance.

That conviction is the Valor thesis in action: the biggest opportunities in applied vertical AI sit closest to the regulated, real-world enterprises that AI has to serve. Taylor had the courage to build the un-glamorous, mission-critical infrastructure layer. We had the conviction to fund it first.

From Real-Time Quality Control to the Compliance Layer for All of Pharma AI

Modicus Prime began by proving it could catch what humans miss. Early pilots detected contaminated silicone-oil particles with greater than 99% accuracy in real time — versus discovery only after manufacture — and converted into a multi-year, multi-million-dollar commercial contract with a global pharmaceutical leader. That first product, mpVision, established the company's credibility on the factory floor with partners including Takeda and collaborators such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Then Taylor saw the larger wave coming. As pharma rushed to adopt AI everywhere — not just in vision-based quality control — the binding constraint shifted from accuracy to governance: how do you deploy AI across a regulated enterprise and stay audit-ready for the FDA, the EMA, and every regulator in between? Modicus Prime built the answer. Today its AI Management System is the single source of truth that lets pharma manufacturers run AI compliantly across their full lifecycle — protecting both patient safety and the ROI of every AI dollar they spend. It is a dramatically larger opportunity than where the company started, and Modicus Prime is defining it.

A Founder Shaping the Rules of the Industry

Category leaders don't just sell into a market — they help write its standards. Taylor co-authored the ISPE GAMP AI Guide and contributed to the BioPhorum AI Implementation publication in 2025, and led ISPE's first-of-its-kind GxP AI Webinar Series on implementing AI/ML in regulated environments. When the people who set the rules for compliant AI in pharma convene, Modicus Prime's founder is in the room — and often holding the pen. That is durable competitive advantage that no feature roadmap can replicate.

The Raise — and the Road Ahead

In May 2026, Modicus Prime announced $8M in total funding, following a $4.5M round led by Frist Cressey Ventures — the healthcare-focused firm founded by former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, MD — with participation from Silverton Partners and Oncology Ventures. The capital follows multiple commercial rollouts across pharmaceutical companies, CROs, CMOs, and CDMOs, and is fueling deeper customer support and platform expansion for international pharma customers.

The market need is enormous: quality-control and compliance failures are estimated to cost the pharmaceutical industry roughly $50 billion every year. As AI moves into every regulated workflow in life sciences, the companies that can prove their AI is trustworthy will win — and the infrastructure that proves it will be indispensable. Valor invested first because we believed Taylor Chartier would build exactly that. Four years in, she is — and the opportunity ahead is larger than the one we first backed.
