I’m always proud to show off the Atlanta startup scene. One of the reasons why is the diversity. For people building companies in Atlanta, the options are  endless for finding your culture, your counter-culture challenge and your opportunity to create. I was looking at my summer calendar–this is the slow season, mind you–and wanted to a share a few of the highlights that showcase the incredible startup diversity in this city.

Women Who Code Hackathon, July 29-31
This coming weekend, Valor is supporting Women Who Code Hackathon Atlanta: Women Take On Tech. The 3 day event brings 100+ engineers, designers, mentors, and developers working over 54 hours to create solutions that drive innovation while supporting inclusion. The hackathon will be held at Tech Square, and is hosted by WWC Directors Erica Stanley, Alicia Carr, and Beth Laing.

Startup-RunwayAtlanta Startup Runway, by Sept 31
Valor’s new series of startup coaching, promoting and connecting to early stage investors kicks off next month at The Gathering Spot. It is focused on the top 10% of women- and minority-led startups in the Southeast in the seed stage between Angel and Series A.

BIG Accelerator, by July 31
For just 1% equity, Black and Latina founders in Atlanta are urged to apply to the BIG Accelerator by Katherine Finney.  It’s a new Atlanta 12-week business accelerator program with structured curriculum focused on developing sustainable businesses, mentorship, and opportunities to pitch directly to investors, plus space, including high speed internet and conference rooms, for the duration of the program and up to 1 year post program. Deadline to apply is July 31.

Pipeline Angels Showcase, by August 1
The Atlanta Pipeline Angels are showcasing for-profit, women-led startups that have social good as part of their mission. They’re looking for their next Atlanta talent right now, for November’s showcase. Apply by August 1.

Venture Atlanta, by Aug 31
Venture Atlanta is taking applications from startups from Washington, DC to Texas to present in front over 100 national investors. They are looking for the best of the best, with no cost to apply and a straightforward process that guarantees you’ll find out about your status by Sept. 16. Deadline to apply is August 31.

Sizzling Atlanta Startup Diversity

That’s just a drop in the bucket–there’s another dozen great events and opportunities that showcase Atlanta’s startup diversity. If you’re in Atlanta, or just passing through on your way through to the beach or the Blue Ridge, consider dropping in. A hallmark of startup diversity here is just how friendly it is.
